Sino-Indian Armies Hold Joint Exercise

NEW DELHI: First- ever joint exercise between Indian and Chinese armies on Indian soil started in Belgaum in Karnataka state on Saturday with an objective to share experience in anti-terrorism operations.
The 15-day ‘Exercise Hand-in-Hand 2008’ will be conducted in three phases.
Senior Indian and Chinese military observers will witness the exercise on December 11 and 12, when around 137 Chinese and Indian troops with 35 officers each will be training jointly at the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre in Belguam.
Mi-17 helicopters of Indian Air force will also participate in the exercise.
Media reports quoting Indian Army’s Additional Director General (Public Information) Maj Gen V K Narula said the joint training and exercise is aimed at increasing mutual understanding and trust between the two militaries, promote mutual military interaction, share joint training to achieve interoperability and improve relations between the countries.
