Normalcy Returns To Indira Gandhi International Airport After Gunshots

New Delhi: Operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport returned to normalcy early on Friday after gunshots were heard there.

There were reports that two sharp sounds had sparked off a security scare at the airport at around 1:00 a. m.. However, a police check yielded nothing.

According to a visitor, he heard two sounds and was asked by the police to get inside the airport building.

“We had come here to drop our passenger at around 12.30 a. m. when we heard two fire shots. We panicked. We were asked by the police to enter the airport and not stand outside,” said Raghuvir Singh.

But nothing was found after police swept through the terminal, and normal operations had resumed.

“All the incoming vehicles to the terminal at our check posts were stopped. Vehicles, which were already in the terminal building, were being searched and then allowed to go out. But no eyewitness to the gun shot, no rounds recovered during combing operation done by us,” said Udayan Banerjee, Director General, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

On Thursday, officials said security alerts had been declared at three major airports, including Delhi and Bangalore. They said extra checks had been imposed on vehicles and luggage after warnings from intelligence agencies.
