FM Qureshi, French FM Discuss Regional Situation

ISLAMABAD: French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on Wednesday telephoned Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and discuss with him regional situation and bilateral relations.

Foreign Minister Qureshi also briefed the French Foreign Minister about the National Security Conference held here yesterday, and said Pakistan strongly condemned the reprehensible terrorist attacks in Mumbai, says a Foreign Office statement issued here.

He said Pakistan government shared the grief of Indian people and also extended sympathies to the families of victims.

"Pakistan abhors any act of violence perpetrated against innocent persons," he said.

Qureshi discussed with his French counterpart the prospects of the Donors Conference on Afghanistan, to be held in Paris later this month.

Kouchner appreciated the level of maturity with which the leadership in Pakistan dealt with the situation arising out of terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

He admired the poise demonstrated by Foreign Minister Qureshi in his interaction with the Indian leadership and media during his recent visit to India.
