National integrity To Be Ensured At All Costs

ISLAMABAD: The Defence Committee of Cabinet was convened here on Monday and it reviewed the regional security situation arising out of the recent Mumbai terrorist attacks.

The committee met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at the Prime Minister House.

The committee reiterated Pakistan’s resolve not to allow its soil to be used for any kind of terrorist activity anywhere in the region and the world.

The committee decided to renew the offer of full cooperation with India, including intelligence sharing and assistance in investigation as well as setting up of a joint investigative commission.

The DCC instructed all departments to continue investigation based on information shared between India and Pakistan, and other allies. It was agreed that all actions taken will be within the ambit of Pakistani law.

It was observed that Pakistan is a responsible, democratic state that is fully committed to safeguarding its national interests and fulfilling its international obligations. Pakistan rejects terrorism in all forms and manifestations, and recognizes that action against terrorism is integral to its core interests.

The Committee was of the view that the security and stability of South Asia is in the fundamental interests of the people of this region. It is therefore imperative to proactively defuse the prevailing tensions.

The committee paid rich tributes to the national political leadership of the country in forging national unity and consensus. Pakistan’s press and media was also lauded for its responsible role in reporting and commenting on this situation.

The committee expressed its complete confidence in the ability of the Armed Forces to fully defend Pakistan.
