MUMBAI: Indian commando operation is in progress in Mumbai to secure release of the people held hostage after terrorist acts were carried out at various locations across the city.
The death toll in Mumbai bomb and fire attacks has mounted to 125 which includes 16 police officials and 9 foreigners while hundreds others have been reported injured.
Cricket teams, which came here to participate in Champion’s League, are returning after the violence in Mumbai disrupted the holding of the event.
Dozens of people have been held hostage in Taj Hotel where Indian commandoes have launched action to secure their release. The militants are reportedly firing and hurling hand grenades at police and commandoes.
General manager of Taj Hotel, his wife and three children have been killed by the attackers’ firing.
The Indian commandoes have completed the search of hotel’s five floors and recovered 40 bodies.
Such operation is also being carried out at Oberoi Hotel.
One Shadullah belonging to what he called Deccan Mujahideen group has claimed that they are a group of seven who have held hostage many people at Oberoi Hotel. Talking to an Indian TV channel, he demanded of the Indian government to release ‘Mujahideen’ from Indian jails, separate Hyderabad Deccan, pull out troops from Occupied Kashmir and to sever ties with Israel.
A militant who has taken foreigners hostage in Nareman House has said that Indian atrocities forced him to wield weapons.
A series of explosions had rocked the Taj Mahal just after midnight. Screams were heard and black smoke billowed from the century-old edifice on Mumbai's waterfront.
Schools and colleges besides the Bombay Stock Exchange remained closed on Thursday as all the trade activities at the Mumbai city came to a standstill after the deadly attacks.
