Gujrat CM Hatls Temple Demolition Drive After Meeting Ashok Singhal

Gandhinagar: Gujarat CM Narendra Modi on Friday ordered to halt the demolition drive going on in Gandhinagar. The decision is believed to come after his meeting with VHP President Ashok Singhal who met Modi on Friday to convey his concerns about the demolition of large number of temples and arrest of fellow leader Ashwin Patel under sedition charges.

Though, Singhal refused to say anything, but this decision of Modi clearly indicate it as an outcome of this particular meeting.

Yesterday, after visiting the sites where temples were demolished, Singhal had criticised the BJP government, saying that it was repeating the act of Mohammad Gazani, who had destroyed a number of temples in medieval Gujarat.

The Modi government in the past week has brought down over 90 religious structures, mostly temples, annoying saffron groups VHP, Bajrang Dal and others.

VHP state joint secretary Ashwin Patel was arrested on the eve of Diwali for sending defamatory SMSs against the CM.
