National Security Conference Begins

ISLAMABAD: A top-level national security conference begun Tuesday at PM House to review the situation arising out of the attacks in the Indian commercial city of Mumbai.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is chairing the meeting in which leaders and representatives of almost all the major political parties of the country are present.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will inform the participants of the conference about the efforts being made by the government to defuse the tension created by allegations leveled by India against Pakistan in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks.

The conference has been convened by the prime minister to create consensus on national security issues.

Director General ISI Maj. Gen Shuja Pasha, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtiar and federal secretaries for interior and foreign affairs are also attending the moot and are likely to brief the participants on current scenario.
