BAGHDAD: At least two people were killed on Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded in central Baghdad, police said, hours before Iraq's parliament was to vote on a controversial US military pact.
Another five people were wounded in the blast in Fardus Square, a roundabout in the centre of the capital where US troops tore down a giant statue of Saddam Hussein after the fall of Baghdad in April 2003.
The blast occurred ahead of a crucial parliament vote on a wide-ranging accord that would require US troops to withdraw from Iraqi cities by the end of June 2009 and from the entire country by the end of 2011.
