Pak shall Talk New US Govt to stop attacks: Miliband

ISLAMABAD: British Foreign Secretary David Miliband has said that Pakistan government should talk to the new US administration to stop air strikes in the tribal areas.

He was speaking at a seminar at the International Islamic University here on Wednesday.

He called for curbing the menace of terrorism that has hit Pakistan, UK and several other countries.

“For regional stability close cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan is necessary,” he said.

British Foreign Minister, has said Pakistan is playing vital role in the war against terrorism and for the regional peace.

Miliband, who is on a one day visit to Pakistan and his second in six months called on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and the Chief of Army Staff Gen. Ashfaque Pervez Kayani.

Pakistan foreign minister in his meeting with the British minister Wednesday conveyed growing concern of Pakistan government as well as of the public over attacks from across the border into Pakistan territory.

The British Foreign Minister in the meeting also discussed bilateral relations, matters relating to the European Union, the Friends of Democratic Pakistan Forum, counter-terrorism, the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s relations with India.

The British Foreign Secretary said his country will assist Pakistan for access to the European markets.

British foreign minister discussed regional security in his meeting with the Army Chief.

The British minister also called on PML-N Leader Mian Nawaz Sharif who expressed his concern over US predators’ strikes in Pakistani territory and termed the act as attack on the country.
