Riaz urges discipline in Irrigation deptt

LAHORE: Senior Minister, Raja Riaz Ahmad has directed Punjab Irrigation department's senior officials to ensure stronger monetary discipline, improvement in the alignment of budgetary allocations/expenditures with policies and priorities of government to ensure efficient and cost-effective use of public sector resources.
He was addressing a three-day workshop on medium term budgetary framework for XENs, SDOs and D&DOs of Irrigation department, organised by Punjab Resource Management Program, P&D department here Tuesday, stated a handout. Secretary Irrigation, Babur Hassan Bharwana was also present.
"Government is committed to adopting a medium term budgetary framework for its financial management and resource planning systems," he maintained.
Raja Riaz hoped that field officers will be trained in goal-oriented financial discipline for better resource management and allocation of budgetary resources on the basis of government policies and priorities.
Punjab Resource Management Program is mandated to initiate financial reforms for better resource management so that necessary fiscal space for improved service delivery could be created. Medium Term Budgetary Framework promotes efficiency and better utilization of financial assets. It is a system for making budget process more strategic and responsive to the priorities of the government, by introducing a medium term horizon to the budgetary process.
Punjab Resource Management Program is conducting workshops for Irrigation department officials in Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan districts to build their capacity for multi-year budgeting approach.
