Pietersen Ton lifts England To 270

CUTTACK: Kevin Pietersen's first one-day hundred as captain lifted England to a defendable 270 for 4 against India in Cuttack. He added 112 with Owais Shah, who ended with 66 off 57 balls on his return back down the order.

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni elected to field after winning the toss against England in the fifth one-day international here.
Batting at No. 3 allowed Pietersen to play an innings of various paces; he raced out of the blocks with 25 off 17 balls, then slowed into consolidation against the spinners before another brief spurt to get him into the 70s at nearly a run-a-ball. The late charge didn't quite materialise, but he reached his seventh hundred off 119 balls, just the third by an England batsman in the last 30 ODIs. England delayed taking the batting Powerplay until the 40th over, but despite having Pietersen and Shah well set, they struggled to make the most of it. Zaheer Khan gave another exemplary display of yorker-bowling as he allowed the batsmen very little room to free their arms. The five overs of restrictions brought 32 runs, a superb result for India considering the resources England had in hand.
