Shane Watson Fined For verbal Abuse

MUMBAI: Australia all-rounder Shane Watson was fined 10 per cent of his match fee for verbal abuse during the third test against India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Thursday.

Indian double centurion Gautam Gambhir faces the more serious charge of elbowing the Australian in the incident on Wednesday but will know the outcome of his hearing on Friday.

The two players appeared for a disciplinary hearing before match referee Chris Broad.

"After considering the evidence, Broad found Watson guilty of verbally engaging with Gambhir in a manner that was not in keeping the spirit of cricket," the ICC said in a statement.

If found guilty, in-form Gambhir, whose double century put the hosts in control of the test, could be fined between 50 percent to his entire match fee and/or banned for one test or two one-day internationals.

Gambhir elbowed Watson as he took a run after the bowler gestured and appeared to say something to him before the tea interval on the first day on Wednesday.
