Local Bodies By-polls Postponed

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan announced Friday to postpone the local bodies by-polls scheduled to be held on November 17, reported ARY OneWorld.

A high-level meeting held at ECP head office decided to postpone the by-elections to be held on November 17 on 380 vacant seats of local bodies in view of Balochistan earthquake and deteriorating law and order situation.

The new date for the by-polls will be announced later, a statement issued after the meeting said.

It is pertinent to mention that three provinces – Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan – had asked the federal government to hold back the local bodies by-polls till a later time, stating their incapacity to hold the polls in ongoing law and order scenario and rough weather in various parts of the country.

Polls had already been postponed in Balochistan after October 29 earthquake.
