Sharm el-Sheikh
- US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh on Saturday to take part in Sunday's Quartet meeting in the Egyptian Red Sea resort.

Rice is expected to meet her Egyptian counterpart Ahmad Abul Gheit later in the evening.

Rice comes to Egypt after her two-day visit to Israel and Jordan where she discussed peace talks with leaders of both countries.

The Palestinian-Israeli peace process is the main topic of the meeting of Arab foreign ministers with representatives of the Middle East diplomatic Quartet on Sunday.

"This meeting is important as it can lead to deeper understanding between the Arab countries and the Quartet on how to proceed regionally and internationally to support negotiations between the two sides," said the spokesman of Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Hussam Zaki.

"Thus, it can help to achieve a just and permanent settlement for this conflict," Zaki was quoted by the official Middle East News Agency as saying Friday.

The Quartet comprises the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations.
