Pak-India talks on registration of Basmati rice conclude

ISLAMABAD: The second meeting of Pak-India Joint Working Group on the registration of Basmati rice that concluded here Saturday, focused on sharing information on standards and delimitation of Basmati growing areas.

The Pakistan delegation was headed by Joint Secretary (Exports) Azher Ali Choudhry while Dinesh Sharma, Joint Secretary (Exports) led the Indian side.

Both the sides agreed to share information on third party infringement and to mount a joint defence to protect unauthorized use of Basmati.

The two sides noted with satisfaction that a number of differences were ironed out during the two-day talks and hoped to achieve further uniformity of views in the next session, which was planned for the first quarter of 2009 in New Delhi.
