ISLAMABAD: The authorities kept the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz
Umar Farooq and other Hurriyet leaders, Maulana Abbas Ansari, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, Fazl Haq Qureshi and Mian Abdul Qayoom under house arrest, on Friday, to thwart the March towards Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, call for which was given by the Jammu and Kashmir
Coordination Committee in occupied Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the occupation authorities had deployed heavy contingents of Indian police and troops outside the houses of these leaders ahead of the March on Thursday.

The authorities had converted the entire Kashmir Valley into a garrison and imposed an undeclared curfew.

Thousands of paramilitary troops and police personnel were deployed on the streets to prevent people from reaching the Jamia Masjid and all the roads leading to Srinagar were sealed with barbed wires and other hurdles.

People living in adjoining areas of the Jamia Masjid were not allowed to move out of their homes.

"The authorities declared curfew here and they did not allow us to come out of our homes. Even we were not allowed to offer morning prayers and to purchase vegetables, bakery and milk," said a resident of Nowhatta, Srinagar."
