India, Pak joint Group on Basmati Meets

ISLAMABAD: The second meeting of the Joint Working Group of Pakistan and India on Basmati Rice started here on Friday. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Commerce, the group had held its first meeting in New Delhi earlier this year. Joint Secretary Commerce Azhar Ali Chaudhri headed the Pakistani delegation while Joint Secretary Ministry of India, Danesh Sharma led the Indian side. The press release stated that the joint group had striven to reach possible grounds on definition of Basmati on the basis of mutually accepted parameters besides defining Basmati growing areas in both the countries and system of checks and measures to deter third party from using the commodity. The meeting will continue on Saturday, the statement added.
