ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet on Wednesday rejected a summary moved by the Establishment Division regarding increase in the upper age limit for CSS competitive examination.

The cabinet headed by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani met here at Prime Minister Secretariat and discussed at length the items on agenda.

On the issue of increasing retirement age from 60 to 63 years of government servants, Prime Minister Gilani said the federal government was not considering any proposal for increasing the limit. He said it would severely hamper the promotion prospects of young talented officers.

Prime Minister Gilani said he could have out-rightly rejected the proposal, when it was submitted to him, but instead asked the relevant ministry to bring it before the Cabinet.

He said the decision was taken to promote a culture of taking cabinet members along in decision-making process and promoting democratic practices in the country.

He said it was vital to maintain the existing age limit as country’s 70 per cent population was young and it was vital to select the best from amongst the fresh graduates.

The Cabinet approved in-principle to start negotiations on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral political consultations between the governments of Pakistan and Namibia.

The Prime Minister observed that once the MoUs are signed, efforts should be made towards their implementation. The Cabinet also granted permission in-principle to a summary moved by Ministry of Labour and Manpower to start negotiations with Italy for entering into an agreement to strengthen cooperation on migration matters.

The MoU will facilitate to formalize arrangements with Italy on migration matters for job placement of Pakistan’s professionals and workers in Italy.

The Cabinet was informed by the Minister for Water and Power about the energy situation in the country. He said that though water in the dams was less than the required level, every effort would be made to ensure adequate water supply to farmers.
